Easter Feast
On Friday we had gorgeous weather, so the family got together for an Easter cookout. They dug a hole and cooked a lamb leg in the ground overnight. We sat outside at the mill, and it was a fantastic afternoon. Aside from the lamb, they had also roasted vegetables and herbs which were delicious. There were potatoes, and we had salad with tzatziki sauce. For Alina there were vegetarian sausages that they cooked on a grill.
The food was amazing, and we made sure to help ourselves. When we were just about full, they announced that there was riskrem! Riskrem is our favorite Christmas dessert, and Gunlaug made some especially for Alina and me. Of course we had seconds (and maybe thirds) with jello that the kids had made. It wasn't until after we'd finished that they brought out three different cakes, as well as raisin and cream filled buns. Obviously we couldn't refuse. We really should have learned our lesson after Christmas. There's never just one dessert!
After we'd eaten, Odd Magnar started chipping away at a wooden pole, and suddenly there was a target put up and a gun taken out. Everybody got a turn shooting at the target, and once the kids had lost interest they brought out a bigger, significantly louder gun. They set up another target farther away, and I hit the outside on 2 of 5 tries! That was definitely an unexpected part of the day.
While we were all hanging around and chatting, the kids were running around playing. We were right by the mill, and had the grand idea to open the track so that the wheel could turn. It took some effort--they had to attach a rope that kept breaking--but finally they opened everything and we got to see the old mill up and running! Alina and I watched the wheel turn outside, then went in to see what it was powering. Turned out to be a terrifyingly large saw. We were just as excited as the kids! We were also excited when we were able to leave with half a cake and a bag full of pastries :)
So glad that you were able to experience such a great Easter celebration. The food looks amazing!
