Cannon Museum

Every Saturday morning the school hosts a seminar, and each student has to complete around 15 of them throughout the year. They range from walking trips to book binding to presentations in the aula. Today was supposed to be something about cooking food on a fire, but it got turned into a Thursday fellesfag presentation instead. I woke up feeling motivated to do something, and was a little disappointed that the seminar was cancelled. However, Marianne offered to drive interested students to the outdoor Kristiansand Cannon Museum instead. I texted Kristine--my reading buddy--and we both got dressed and made our way to the minibus.

The museum was really cool! The students that went ended up being the stipps, some of the Global girls, and me and Tomimaru from NLC. We were able to walk around the old cannon structure, and even climbed up some ladders through the building. There was one door that we walked into that led around the inside of the building. Since it had only two exits, at one point it was pitch black as we walked through. There were a lot of nooks and crannies that we explored, and running through the floor was an old cart track--an ammunition railway, according to my quick google search.

After seeing the old cannon, we took a walk over to the gigantic WW2 cannon. There is a twin cannon in Denmark, and when fired, the two can meet each other in the middle of the sea. Marianne said that when it's fired, she can feel it miles away in her house's windows. Though we weren't able to get as close, it was still really exciting to see!

While we checked out the cannons, Tomimaru went fishing. We all joined him down by the water, and most definitely scared all of the fish away! I had a really nice time hanging out--I don't usually hang out with the Global class so this was fun and different. We shared snacks and talked, and passed around the fishing rod. I'm so glad that I went, and I love that there are always opportunities for fun at school!

  1. It reminds me of the Lindesnes lighthouse we went to and all the tunnels that remain there. Cool way to spend a Saturday morning!

  2. I'm surprised that you didn't find someone to fire the cannon.
