Back to School Quarantine Crazy
Rather than the ten days of isolating with your class like we did after Christmas break, this time the school confined everybody to their rooms when they got back. On Tuesday people came around administering Covid tests, and majority of the school was notified sometime Wednesday with the results. I got back to school Monday afternoon, and Ananda arrived Monday evening. They left out some ramen and other snacks for us, and we were required to wear masks anytime we left our rooms.
On Tuesday, Ananda and I spent most of the day in our room. Mealtimes were separated by the dorm hallway groups, and we all had to distance as we headed to the cafeteria. It was still buffet style meals, but the kitchen staff filled each of our plates for us so that none of the students had contact with the food or utensils, and we all took our meals back to our rooms to eat.
Around midday, I heard some noise out the window and saw some of my friends walking around. I started talking to them from the window, and Sofia--in the room next to me--joined in too! Eventually there was a whole group of us chatting from our windows. It was really fun, and a definite sign of quarantine boredom. In the afternoon I took a walk with some friends, but we wore masks and kept distance. We all had to wait in our rooms for the testers to come, but it wasn't as bad as I'd anticipated. Ananda and I spent the rest of the evening just chilling and hanging out, working on a writing assignment from Marianne.
Wednesday was a lot more fun! We were given a photography assignment that required us to walk around the lake a take pictures at certain spots, so we decided to use the opportunity for a workout as well. We got all dressed up for running and made it about five minutes before we gave up. In a mix of running, walking, and giggling, we made it around the lake. At one point we took a break and climbed a tree, waving to people from school walking by.
We still hadn't taken any of our pictures, so we ran/walked around the lake again, blasting One Direction music and singing as we went. Ananda and I had so much fun goofing off and taking silly pictures. It was a great way to let energy out, and got us out of our quarantine blues. It was a good thing that we spent the morning outside, because the afternoon was dark and rainy, and it even hailed a little.
The evening was spent binge watching our new Marvel show together and eating chocolate. When that was over, Ananda finished up her writing task, and I worked on a puzzle while listening to my audiobook. Despite the rather crazy situation, we had a really amazing day! (So far everybody has tested negative, and life is basically back to normal for us).
Sounds like you made the most of the situation. So happy you didn't have to quarantine very long this time!
ReplyDeleteWhile quarantined, were you able to find a Norwegian club at Purdue so you can continue your speaking and writing next year? Or will Marianne keep sending you lessons?
