Tur Med Friluftsliv

         On the last Wednesday before we left for juleferie (xmas break) the NLC class went for a trip with Friluft. Friluft is my favorite class--if I was Norwegian I'd 100% be in the class--so I was very excited. We got dropped off at the bottom of a big hill, and when we reached the top there was a beautiful view of the water. 



        From there, we walked down to the place that we had gone canoeing with Friluft before--where Alina and I stayed the night outside. I was in the front of the pack with most of the outdoor class and their teacher. December in Norway is chilly, and it was about lunch time, so we decided to make a fire. We'd all had to carry logs with us from the school, and it was nice getting that weight out of my bag. I helped Morten (their teacher) with the wood to get the fire going, and he even let me light it. (I'm a self-declared honorary Friluftsliv member).

        We ate and hung out by the fire for an hour or so. They brought pepperkakedeig (gingerbread dough) and we cooked it by wrapping it around sticks over the fire. We had made pepperkaker at school before but I hadn't loved it. This was much better! It got a little smokey and crispy with a soft inside--definitely the best way to eat it :)

        It started to rain--what's new--so we decided to head back. It's about a 45 minute to an hour walk, but I stuck to the front with the hardo Friluft members, and we made it back in no time. We left the teacher and the rest of the classes behind, and made our own way through the woods, dodging puddles and skirting the swamp that had taken over the path. I had a really fun time! I hope that we can do more with Friluft in the future! (hint hint @ marianne if you're reading this).

Zip Lining!

           Friday, the entire school took a field trip to a ropes course and zip lining park. We left early, right after morning assembly. The school has two minibuses, but they only fit thirty or so people all together, so they also hired a huge tourbus type thing. It was wayyyy more comfortable than the mini bus!          We split into three groups to get ready and watch the safety video. I've been zip lining before--but never done a ropes course--and it's always been structured, where you go along a certain path in a group with an instructor. Here was very different. We tried to put it in  the wash bucket when we were on kitchen duty, as ask him to pass it to us, but he was intercepted by Fabian right before he could grab it. After a few more failed attempts, we decided we needed a man on the inside. I knew who had to kill Fabian, and with what, so we worked out a deal with him that he would kill Sindre, and we would tell him his murderer--and that we also wouldn't help them kill him (would have been easy). Return to Norway Part 2 - Aurebekksvannet

            On Sunday, Alina and I woke up to the sounds of the beautiful Aurebekk waterfall, and trekked up the hill to Anne Tone's for breakfast. The plan for the day was to see almost all of the family, and have a picnic at the new Gapahuk up at Aurebekksvannet. We got ready with our tur pants and wool sweaters, and walked with the girls up to the lake. The gapahuk, which was built by a bunch of Gunlaug's kids (they'd been slicing wood when we were there over Easter), looked amazing! It was such a nice day out, that we stayed for hours--eating, talking, playing with the children, and just hanging out. Here are some photos of our wonderful day! The Mill at Aurebekk. The Gapahuk!
