Lord of the Rings

Before I left for Norway, there were a few things that I made sure I packed. My toothbrush, my water bottle, and my set of the Lord of the Rings extended editions. They are each about 4 hours long, and contain all of the deleted and cut scenes from the original movies. They are amazing. Turns out I wasn't the only person with that great idea, because one of the stipps--alumni student-teachers doing a second year--brought his set too!

We've been planning to watch them since the start of the school year, and gathering a group of people crazy--I mean dedicated--enough to watch all 12 hours. It ended up starting on Saturday night at 6. The movies are split into two discs, so we watched the first one, then had evening meal at 8, and finished the movie afterwards. While waiting for the second half to start, we put up some silly LoTR videos, and had a very entertaining intermission: (This is Tommaso and Eric from NLC).

On Sunday, we started the second movie at 4 so that we could watch the whole thing at once. While the seats in the aula are great, it's even more fun to watch from a beanbag chair! There are only a few of them, so after dinner, my friends and I made sure that we got to them first. The only problem was that the aula was locked, so we staked out the door, waiting for Frederik with the keys.

There ended up being about 20-25 people that watched the movies, which is kind of amazing. You'd think people would have better things to do Saturday and Sunday nights :) Our beanbag seats were very comfortable, and Ananda and I brought down our new cozy blankets to make it even better!

We watched the first half of Return of the King on Monday, and finished the series on Tuesday. Now I don't know what to do with my evenings! The sound system in the aula is amazing, and the battles and speeches were even better than usual. It was interesting watching these movies--that I've seen so many times--in a quiet theater. Like at the cinema, nobody was on their phone during the films, so there were no distractions, and we had subtitles on so that everybody could understand, which meant I was able to catch every single word. Daniel--if you're reading this, go watch LoTR with subs on, you'll learn so much more!

I had such a great time spending these evenings with my friends, fighting over beanbags, sharing popcorn and chocolate, and quoting all of the iconic lines with the other nerds in the room. If I wasn't so focused on learning Norwegian, I could probably start a very popular club learning Elvish :) I hope there are more movie nights in the future--maybe we'll marathon Star Wars next!
